The Direct Parallel eVideo series shows how to teach a first-time skier using PMTS Direct Parallel technique. All the Direct Parallel videos are dual-purpose, suitable for teaching yourself or others.
In this second video of the three-part series, you'll practice for the first time with skis on. You'll revisit the movements and activities of video 1; learn to glide; use gliding and fan steps to make your first linked turns and to stop using Direct Parallel movements.
Presenter: Diana Rogers, 24 minutes, 1 GB, Hi-Def, Copyright 2017
With skis on...
*Review the primary movements, transfer of balance, and stepping from video 1
*Learn to glide forward and backward
*Glide and step in order to make your first turns
*Learn the bullfighter turn, that you will use on the slopes to turn around without sliding
*On a very gentle slope, sidestep uphill, then use fan steps to release, slide, and engage, coming to a stop
*Review the movements and activities of PMTS Direct Parallel skiing with skis, before going onto a slope
*Learn how to use tipping and stepping to make turns
*Use tipping and stepping to release and to stop
In order to get the most benefit from this video, you should already (at a minimum)...
*Have properly-fitted skis, boots, and poles
*For outdoor practice, have a flat area with packed snow that's at least 10 ft x 10 ft (3m x 3m)
*Your first slope should be less than 10 degrees pitch (very gentle) and should flatten out into the above flat area
*Have practiced all the activities in the video Direct Parallel 1 until you can do them correctly, with confidence

*Direct Parallel 3 (eVideo) takes you from the end of video 2 and shows you how to approach the fall line safely and progressively until you can link turns going downhill on very gentle terrain.
